As some versions may work better than others such as for 1.12.2 servers having a install for that version can be helpful.

1.To get started Launch your Minecraft and head over to installations found here:

2:From there you can see the various versions you have already created and there create a new install by clicking on new.

3.From there name your install to what you want, and select a version from the menu that you wish to have on that install and Click Create.

4.Once you've created your instance you can head back to the play tab and select your Install from the menu next to play and your set.
